If you are supplying the embroidery file
Tajima format. Colors and PMS closest match identified, .EMB preferred. Wilcom. If you have only the .DST it is workable.
Defining what .emb and,dst file types are for Embroidery Machines:
dst OR emb . To .dst, .emb or not to .dst, .emb , no question… (this doesn’t look right)
Extension or type when viewing the file name on your computer (file name).dst OR (file name).emb
DST files are designed for Tajima embroidery machines. EMB are more universal and can be more easily edited, This of course like most things is arguable but this is our experience and preference. Wilcom Tracer or Workspace is the most popular software used to create these files. You can spend hours on the internet looking for shortcuts to create these files yourselves but you will most likely find that it is much easier to get this service provided. Since companies like ours have the relationships to get these done both rapidly and correctly it is best to allow it for the initial setup to assure it is done correctly and has some guarantee to it. We maintain subscriptions on these programs and services so it is best to tap into that in luea of purchasing something for a one time use and spending the 1-3 hours it can take to tool in some cases. Allowing us to sort this out for you assures accuracy on the next step which is the sew outs-tests. It also keeps the price negotiable due to the job size and our negotiating skills with our service providers. Ultimately, These files created are sort of a mapping program for the needles to make the needed movements to lay stitching and trim the thread accordingly to create embroidery designs of the selected item.
Stitch Count: Number of stitches to make the entire file design. Cost for embroidery is usually 100% based on the stitch count while considering trims is what ultimately determines the run time and usage of thread. The best job costing estimates can be made and pricing can be better negotiated off this knowledge.
Trims: The number of times the embroidery machine will automatically cut the thread to give the logo or art a more finished look. The more trims the cleaner the logo but it adds to the individual production time for each item. If a decorator is going to cut corners it is best to check here first or let us handle all this for you to utilize our knowledge while saving time and money.
Threads: Many types, specialist goes with what is best to both closest match color to PMS for logo and art and also what works best for the garment material. Experience plays a major factor here in making sure you are picking the proper threads to compliment the material being embroidered. If you have a special need for an exact thread brand or color, let us know and we can get it sourced by our decorators and advise the cost on your quote.
Sew Outs: This is when the projected approved artwork is set up on a single head embroidery machine to run a sample of the provided converted art on a piece of material to check the size and line work of the needles and the accuracy of the .dst or .emb file. Pictures of these will be sent to be evaluated and approved, approval with changes or changes will be communicated and once the final sew-out is approved both the production time and production starts.
Running Process for Promotional Embroidery Machines: Depending on the number of pieces the job is spread over single or multiple embroidery head machines. Goods are individually separated, unpackaged and unfolded if needed. Ideally a hooper concentrates on hooping each item to both grip and spread the material so the embroidery needle can lay thread accordingly on each item in the desired location. Different hoop sizes and attachments are used to accommodate different types of items. When selecting some items you may have to test one to assure the hoop and decorator has access. The hooper also puts a trade material like salve or backer depending on the material and art. This backer is what you feel behind embroidery holding it together. Once hooped the machine can run the thread according to the file downloaded. Run times vary for each design based on thread stitch count and trims. Using the newest technology a .emb or .eps can be put into the machine via a flash drive. The operator makes sure the art is colored properly, the proper thread colors are set up or threads them to a needle if needed for each color. The embroidery operator then runs a trace to make sure the needles are not going to run into the walls of the hoops on all of the embroidery heads while making sure the artwork size will fit and be centered. During the run, the operator has to stay alert of any bobbins or threads breaking, stopping the machine automatically for safety now as these will have to be replaced and fixed on the fly as before the running of the job progresses. Once the machines are done each hoop and item has to be individually removed from the embroidery machine head. Cleaning and inspection for detail can now begin. Scissors and tweezers are utilized to remove, shape and clear off the backing on the item as much as possible. Lighters are even used in some cases to sear off loose thread. Carefully. The goods can then be folded and packed for delivery and/or shipping. Ideally the decorator utilizes individuals in each of these stations, avoiding having their employees doing multiple tasks on this line to avoid any switch of concentration or focus.
